Make Your Pharmacy the First Stop for Community Summertime Safety

It’s summertime and that means outdoor activities – lots of outdoor activities. During the warmer months, customers will participate in camping, swimming, porch sitting, bike riding, baseball games – the list can go on and on.

And, even with best preparations, summertime accidents can, and do, happen:

  • Too much sunshine
  • Cuts and scrapes
  • Sports injuries
  • Dehydration
  • And bug bites – lots of bug bites

These are just a few of the minor – yet irritating – experiences anyone can run into whether they’re on vacation, or just sitting on their front porch. So why not make your pharmacy the community’s one-stop-shopping for summer health necessities?

Convenience, Value, and Increased SalesCommunity Summertime Safety! blog-02.png

Most people who go into a pharmacy for sunscreen, or aloe, will find their choices laid out for them in a seasonal aisle, or on an endcap, but what about putting together pre-packaged “Summer Healthcare Kits” for those customers who are in a rush – or may forget some small item they didn’t think they’d need?

Kits can be fun, easy, and economical for a patient, while increasing a pharmacy’s sales figures at the same time. For example:

Camping Kit:

  • Insect Repellant
  • Bug bite ointment
  • Antibacterial cream
  • Adhesive bandages
  • Pain relievers
  • Batteries
  • Small sew kit

Beach Kit:

  • Sunscreen
  • Aloe
  • Antibacterial cream
  • Adhesive bandages
  • Pain relievers
  • Batteries

And, the combinations can be tailored to your community – beach kits for those near the shore, lake kits for those near the lakes, camping kits for pharmacies near camping areas. Your pharmacy isn’t near any of those areas? Not a problem! You can still get in on the trend by offering a selection of different kits for customers who are travel outside of your community or even offer a “Flight Approved” kit of items that adhere to TSA regulations.

Don’t Forget the Add-Ons

Finally, be sure to recommend purchases that might not fit into a pre-assembled kit.

  • If it’s hot out and your customer is buying a snack, recommend the bottled water you may have on special.
  • If they’re buying sunglasses, mention the selection of kids’ sunglasses you offer.
  • If they purchase facial moisturizer, recommend a brand that has sunscreen for daytime/outdoor use.
